Community Links

As a small village school we consider ourselves to be very much part of the local community and are constantly seeking to improve our links with the village. We are very fortunate to have a number of residents from the village who come in weekly to read with the children, an activity which is enjoyed by both the adults and the children and which fosters positive relationships between the older and younger members of our community.

Our children enjoy participating in local events and play an active role in the village fete providing Country Dancing and brass music. We visit the Welcome Club – a social club for some of Hollesley’s senior citizens, and sing to the residents at Glebe House at Christmas.

We have very close links with Hollesley pre-school who occupy purpose-built premises next to the school and we encourage them to make use of our grounds. The children from the pre-school visit our school regularly and share activities with our younger class as well as joining us for events such as Harvest Festival and Christmas. Lunches for the pre-school are cooked in our school kitchen.

We have good links with Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge where most of our children transfer at the end of Year 6.Throughout their time at Hollesley children may visit Farlingaye to participate in sports, maths, ICT and the annual choral concert which involves children from the oldest class. There is a carefully planned induction programme for the children in Year 6 including visits to Farlingaye and visits from Farlingaye staff and former pupils.

The school takes a lively interest in activities with other schools in the local area and participates in many inter-school sporting events such as football, netball, Kwik cricket, tag-rugby and rounders. The annual cross-country event for local schools is hosted by Hollesley.

Two of our Year 6 pupils act as School Reporters and provide reports for the village magazine “Village Voices” throughout the year.A school photographer is appointed each year with the responsibility of providing photos to accompany the reports and a photographic record of the school year.
